Types of Food Packaging: Its Three Basic Forms

Dairy goods, portions of fish, meat, fruits, and vegetables, convenience foods, snacks, dry fruits, and chopped vegetables are a few items that require primary packaging. Materials: the materials used to make this packaging include coated paper, cardboard, biopolymers, metallised polymers, aluminum, tin, and stainless steel.

  2. Secondary Food Packaging - A secondary package comprises several primary packages combined into one box, often composed of corrugated cardboard. As a material handler for the primary packages' dissemination, the secondary level makes it easier to handle them throughout transportation. Sometimes, it can help display essential commodities in retail stores or supermarkets. This container can hold cereals, frozen pizzas, and other frozen dry items. Materials: both cards and paperboard may be recycled and used as secondary food packaging materials.

  3. Tertiary Food Packaging - The final package, or tertiary packaging, provides further product protection while facilitating secure handling, storage, and distribution of both primary and secondary packages in bulk. Tertiary packaging also makes it simple to move vast amounts of commodities. A wrapped pallet of corrugated cases is the most common tertiary packing. Any food can be transported from manufacturing facilities to distributors using this packaging. Materials: corrugated cardboard, wooden pallets, polymers, and multi-layer packaging are among the materials utilized in this type of packaging.
